algae help

i have a brown algae that is taking over and dont know what it is or how to get rid of it

this algae is tree like and very short it grows in clusters and is very wavy it looks like dead brown tuble weed

there is a picture of it on pg. 29 of anthony calfo and rob fenners book caled reef inverts.

they are not corals or aptasia, they have taken over and seem to be full grown but spreading

any thoughts?

thanks

Can you offer a clear full frame picture of yours? It will help with the control suggestions to confirm the ID as best we can.

it might be hair algae... a lot of manual removal cured me of my problem.. and lowerd light of course. you can treat with chemicals but i HATE using chemicals to fix things... it's usually only temporary
