Hello all: I have a 55 gal reef tank thats been up and running for three years now. I use RO/DI water only and have had no problems with coral or fish (6) until two months ago when I raised my KH from 5 dkh to almost 12dkh. I had always had dkh on the lower end of the recommended 7dkh and decided to raise it to see if that would promote coral growth. I have always maintained a high calcium level of around 475ppm. My trach and lobo opened fully during the photo period until I raised the dkh and have failed to open since? I have lowered my dkh to around 7dkh and calcium to 335ppm and maintained the level for several weeks now, but my track & lobo still wont open? The only other change in coral is my montipora has white blotches? and the rest of the coral is fine. No sps in the tank. My Ph runs for 8.10 lights out to a high of 8.24 lights on. I maintain a very clean bare bottom tank with the help of my euroreef smimmer and 5 gal water changes every two weeks. I am running a natural reef with 75 gallons of live rock covered with purple corraline algae. I do not use any additives other than calcium. If anyone has a clue to why these corals are not opening I would appreciate your imput.
Thanks in advance, Roger D |
