Anyone purchased this AQUASCAPING?

Has anyone had any experience with this stuff? They're selling ceramic backwalls and pillars. Interesting stuff

Totally cool but yeah, it's kind of pricey.

I found that when I was thinking about a new tank--now 2 weeks old. It looks great. The price killed it for me.

There's a thread here somewhere involving reef ceramics. As soon as the search frees up...

It looks pretty cool stuff - must look great when coralline-encrusted.

BUT... It's a pity the back-plates don't taper off at an angle - the current design means either you have to cover the entire back of your tank, or have an unnatural-looking straight edge finish halfway across your tank.

Wonder if anyone imports this stuff to the UK... ?

There are sections of the reef that are vertical. You'd have to seed the tank with some LR so that should provide you with some depth. I'm not sure how you're qualifying pricey. 20lbs of quality live rock @ $5/lb will still set you back $100. I think it's a fair priced due to how unique this is.

Ceramic is a good material for bacterial growth, but you lose the buffering capabilities of real aragonite rock.

That is kinda what I was asking. If this stuff is made of an aragonite based material it would definately be more beneficial in many ways. Thus making the price more acceptable. But if it is just a 'surface' that can be used for corals to be attached IMO it is overpriced.

It seems like cool stuff to put in the back of the tank, to make the walls more benecifal to attach corals to. but there size chioces are not the best. Can this stuff be cut easily?

You'd have to take a grinder to it.

Looks great... You should buy a piece a little bigger than the over flow so it would overlap the back wall but I would have to see it person.

My tank is just starting to grow some Coraline Algae. Here is a shot of my reef Ceramics and Live rock. Can you tell the difference?

Left side is Reef Ceramics.

Right half of photo is LR.

Why not make a wall of the DIY rock ? Sure you have to let it cure but, it's dirt cheap to make the stuff.

You can (if you've got the inclination) make your own aragocrete walls. Me, I don't have the inclination. It's easier to buy prefab stuff. For the DIYers this (reefceramic) is not something they'll be interested in. For those of us that don't like DIYing, reefceramic is sweet. My one caution: if your tank is less than 2ft front to back, the walls are too thick. They narrow the tank too much. My tank is 3ft front to back and it's fantastic IMO.

Here is the thread I put together when I was considering building this stuff myself. I didn't have the time to do it so I just bought mine. However others have been sucessful and have posted how to DIY reef ceramics later in the DIY thread.

you could mix rock rubble with some kind of cement and sand make it wall, let it dry, and walah! wall-o-rock
