Lights hours (and other questions)
I have a JBJ 24G nanocube
let's say I want 10 hours with lights on, does it make a difference if I do like noon-10pm or I should open the lights during normal daylight (my room doesn't have direct sunlight but still clear during the day). Also, the JBJ comes with two leds for night, do they have to be opened? My setup has only one plug that I have on a timer, so if I can do noon-10pm with lights on, I don't need those leds and would prefer not use them since I have to put the timer on to open them. Regards, Etienne

It doesnt mattr what time of day the tank lights come on, as long as the tank has light between 8 to 12 hours a day you will be fine.

Regardless of whether your room gets direct sunlight or not, if its getting any natural light you should run your lights more during the daylight hours as to give your fish and corals a true day/night cycle. Fish like to sleep to. Since most people work during the day and would like to be able to see their tank when they get home, I would recommend going more like 10-8 on the light cycle.

I run my tank almost completely reversed from daylighting, my lights are on at 8 pm and off about 6pm only because im not here during the day at all. My tanks is in almost complete darkness during the day, no direct sunlight. Sunlight will contribute to unwated algae problems so keep that in mind, I dont know how bright your room is.
As far as your moonlights, no they dont have to be used at all. If you did want to use them just for the effect when your tank lights are off you could leave them on 24/7 and when your reg lights cut off they will be on, it wont hurt anything |

thanks!
I leave home at 6 and back at 6 so for me I like to see it until ~10 when I'm off to sleep. Maybe I could cover the tank to make it darker during the day (like you do with bird's cage)? My shades are always closed in the room, but still it's "clear". Regards, E.

Actualy sunlight wont contribute to algae, If thats how it is , the ocean would be one big mass of algae.
If your tanks levels like phosphate, and you dont have alot of extra nutrients in the tank sunlight wont hurt but will actually help. |

The extra light won't hurt... natural light is helpful, don't block out the sun. The big concerns for a lot of light on the tank from windows is fluctuations in temperature... as long as it's not in a really sunny window, you're fine...
