Sump Pump Question for 95 gallon tank

I have an Oceanic SUmp. Model 1. IN the sump I am currently using a Magnetic drive utility pump. It is rated at 950gph. Is this suficient, or do u think it is too much. It seems to make quite a bit of noise underneat the fishtank. does any1 have suggestions on how to keep it quiet if this is the correct pump. Thanks in advance

Lil B

Lil B,
First off, do you know if this "utility pump" is salt water rated? If it has any metal parts, you should find another pump.

You didn't mention how its plumbed into the tank, number of elbows, pipe size, etc... or what type of tank you are keeping. You are probably only getting 300 to 500 gph actual flow in the end.

The actual tank is 95 gallons. The sump Is 25 gallons. The tank is drilled and using the Megaflow system. I am not using any pipes, however I am using prob about a 1/2 inch hose running into the return pipe on my mega flow. Hope that helps some more.

I have the 95-wave tank with the mega-flow 3 i converted to a refugium. the return pump is a mag 9.5. i have to adjust the return rate to about 80% because the overflow wasn't filling fast enough thus creating a gurgling noise in about 7 second intervals. as far as using the return for circlulation only i found out it wasn't NEARLY what i needed. got my finances up and bought a wavemaster pro wavemaker and 4 mj 1200's set on the 1st reef option and was absolutely STUNNED at how much debris kicked up from the sand bed, under rocks, in the corners, etc. since the wavemaker was installed i brought back the return to about 75% and i'm happy with the circulation. hope that helps.
