What do you think are the best and most likely to pair shrimp/goby combo's?
If you have some pics, lets see them! |

I got a Hi Fin Red Banded Goby and a Tiger pistol shrimp. After I was done acclimating them I put them in the same bowl together for about 20 minutesso they can get use to each other. The second I put them into the tank they have been inseparable.

I had a yellow watchman that was a big sissy around all the other tankmates. Then I added a pistol shrimp and he became super human. He chased away all the fish, that once bullied him, when they came too close to his burrow. The funny thing is the shrimp never even noticed anything. He just kept digging.I finally had to take the shrimp out because he dug so much,he caused some of the live rock to fall.

Best combo is one that's already paired up in the stores I'd say..

Hey Mystic the bowl idea was very smart! Has anyone else has success with this method?

I bought a Yellow Watchman, and Tiger Pistol, and they paired immediatly when I put them in the tank, of course they were already paired in the store, which is why I jumped on it. Wasn't really planning on spending $60 on that trip

I've got an orange-spot shrimp goby paired with a tiger pistol. They came from different stores, and I had the shrimp for a long time before finding the right goby. Seconds after introducing the fish to the tank the pistol came out of his cave, herded the fish underground and they've been inseparable ever since

I believe any gobe will have a symbiotic relationship with a pistol shrimp.

There are actually lots of gobies (like sleepers, clown gobies, cleaner gobies, dartfish) that don't live with pistols. Here's an article on wetwebmedia about shrimp gobies, it lists different species that share a symbiotic relationship with pistols

Hey, acblinkey, those look familiar!
![]() Mine were still bagges from the vendor (separately), paired up in about a day, and are now inseparable. |

Nice pairs Brent, Gary & ACB!
What are they (specific names)? Do all pistol shrimps carry around rubble to make their own home or are their specific ones that scavage and stack rubble? (I know that most will dig a hole, but I though there were some in particular that stack rubble making a 'fort' like structure) |

BrentN - lol, it's like looking in a mirror!
StinkinTuna - the goby is Amblyeleotris guttata, the shrimp is Alpheus bellulus. My tiger pistol will steal anything that's not nailed down - frags, shells, rubble, even snails and hermits and use them as building material. They're hilarious to watch, but make sure you put your rockwork securely on the bottom before you add the sand or they can cause rockslides.

Absolutely, but be prepared - they may remodel it to suit their tastes

i could add more sand accordingly to where it's been taken from. also, would rock rubble help? for their burrow?

I guess the moment of stress when entering into a new enviroment like the bag forces them to buddy up better? lol

Here's my Randall's shrimp goby and tiger pistol. They paired up immediately after I introduced the shrimp. The goby recognized it immediately and has never left it's side.
