Colors in the sand bed

Disclaimer: I don't have a digital camera. I wasted that money on MH lighting parts...

I have little splotches of purple (yes, purple) against the glass JUST below the surface of the sand. It doesn't look like coralline, in fact it strikes me as looking more like collected dust in one particular area.

Could I have... *gasp* cyano?

It's under the sand, mind you.
