feeding fresh seafood

clams mussels,how long does evryone leave them in before they remove the shells?

I usually just purchase the meat, and not seafood still in the shells. My fish eat them very fast so when I purchase sea food, like clams, mussels, squid or shrimp, I usually clean it and remove the shells and then feed it to the fish. After feeding whatever I don't use I freeze.
