Protien skimmer Q (& PH)
Well I think my ol prizim skimmer has finally crapped out. It started shooting billions of tiny bubbles into the tank (no new adjustments) so I took it apart, cleaned everything and soaked in vinager...still tons of bubbles. I think the pump just crapped out ...
SOOOO I'm in the market for a new skimmer. -I have to have a hang on style due to space restraints. -Its only a 20 gallon tall tank also. I was gonna go with the new prizim pro's but I figured I'd ask if there were any better ones out there for the space I have to work with. I think the berlin hang on is out of the question ... it would stick over the tank at what...26 inches tall? Anyone ever herd of this one on dr. foster smith ... Typhoon Hang-On Skimmer ... it says its a venturi. any good? Any other skimmer sugestions? While I'm at it I figured I'd upgrade my powerheads too...they are old. I'm looking at either a SEIO or a Maxijet 1200 or 900 with the " Hydro flow rotating deflector" for some current action... any preferences? I posted on SPS forum and got it narrowed down to these two options.

I use two MJ 900s and I get nice flow. I haven't used SEIO or Tunze, so I can't tell you anything about them. I would look into a CSS. I am looking to upgrade as well, and people seem to like these.

20 gallon? Just do water changes. If not, a regular Prizm is effective enough for a small tank like that. I use a Lee's Counter Current airstone skimmer on my 20 hex. $25, and it works very nicely, as long as I keep the wood airstone clean. Takes up a little space in the tank, but so be it...

I took a look at the CSS... a needle wheel.. sounds good. does it have a surface skimming box, or can you hook one up to it?
Is it really noisey... compaired to a prizim? what about produce you get out? Thanks for the advice everyone... I think the CSS is the way for me to go!
