SPS Polyp Extension issues
I have a piece of SPS that I love, it is a 1 inch frag and the polyp extension is usually very long looks great in the flow (long for sps, not crazy long).
Lately the part of the coral facing up at the light isnt extending any polyp. Never, not in the dark not in the light never. The amount of area seems to be spreading too. I see no tissue die off, the coral is a mustard color (deli style not french's) and the color hasn't changed anywhere. Any thoughts? Is it dying? Should I frag it before this spreads to all of it? It isn't big enough to frag a piece and see what happens to the rest it is a frag itself that has started to grow out. Thoughts? It is in an 8 gallon tank with a maxi 400, and a HOB filter for carbon. I have a 70 Watt MH running 13K bulb. Also it is one of 13 SPS pieces, and the only one with an issue, so I don't think it is the conditions UNLESS it is too much light some how. It is the highest up in the tank and very near the water surface. Thats the part that makes me wonder as this is happening most at the parts that face up tot he light. Thanks, David

From experience, this is bad. Check flow (both amount and direction). May just be transition if this coral is new and adjusting.
Too much light typically bleaches, and too little typically makes them turn brown and slowly recede from the base up or get covered with algae. |

Not enough flow? I have redirected my powerhead, a maxijet 400 pretty much right at it, from less then 6 inches away. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the input.
