refractometer does not work

Well it works for my salt water readings, but won't tell me the gravity of my beer (I brew my own beer). Anyone have any idea why?

I don't think they are designed for testing beer.

I figured it out, so if anyone does a search on this in the future you'll know

one type of refractometer measures salt content

the other measures sugar content.
