Sunlight Supply T5 Retrofit - Instructions needed

I bought a Sunlight SupplyT5 Retrofit Kit a while ago and just got around to start putting it together today. I don't remember if it came with instructions, but I can't find them anywhere. Anybody have a link to a pdf file or something?

No instructions with those, Just follow the wire diagram on the ballast.

The wiring isn't the confusing part. How do you mount the reflectors? Each as two holes at the very ends, but it doesn't look like you should screw through those to mount the reflectors. They're not just holes, they're also cut to the ends. Are you expected to drill through it to add support in the middle?

The kit comes with endcaps that will hold the bulbs from the ends, but it also comes with clips that are meant to hold onto the bulbs to. How do you mount the clips? What's the best way to attach the endcaps?

Guess I have a wiring question too, on the ballasts there are holes where you plug in the wires, and there's a little button next to each hole. What does the button do?

If somebody has some closeup pics of their SLS retro setup, I'd appreciate it!

You don't mount the reflectors. The holes you see are for the bulb clips. The reflector simply clips on to the bulb. No mounting required.

You use the bolts provided to attach the bulb clibs to both ends of the reflectors. The bolt goes through the clip, then through the hole at the end of the reflector, then secure with the nut. At this point you eat a piece of candy that they always supply you with

Snap the end caps onto the standoffs, mount to the canapy, then wire it up. Once everything is mounted just clip the reflector assembly onto the bulb.

When I installed mine I put the endcaps on a bulb and mounted it so I knew I had the right distance apart then I wired them according to the ballast.

Got my kit working tonight, thanks for the info! Reefgeek also emailed me a word doc with these instructions, could be useful to the next guy so I'm posting it here.

Installation Guide

1. Assemble Reflectors

Sunlight Supply Tek:
Remove the protective film on the inside of each reflector. Bend the tabs on each end flat so they form a complete hole. Use the small screws and nuts to fasten the lamp clips to the inside of the reflector.

IceCap SLR:
Remove the protective film on the inside of each reflector. Insert each lamp clip holder into the 2 small tabs at the end of each reflector. Use the small screws and nuts to fasten the lamp clips to the inside of the reflector.

2. Assemble the End-caps to the Mounts.

Insert the end-cap into the flat side of the mount (opposite the small spacers) until you hear a slight "click" as they lock together. The spacers provide a space to pass the wire through.

3. Wire the End-caps

Universal Triad
Cut the 18 gauge wire to the desired length and strip each end to expose 1/4” - 3/8” of bare wire. Following the color coded wiring diagram printed on the ballast, gently push each wire into the correct hole on the bottom of each end-cap until it catches. There should be only one wire going into each side of the end-cap. If installed correctly you should be able to gently pull on each wire without the wire coming out. In the event you need to remove the wire from the end-cap gently push a straightened paper-clip up the hole until the wire releases.

IceCap
Following the instructions provided by the ballast manufacturer, gently push each wire into the correct hole on the bottom of each end-cap until it catches. There should be only one wire going into each side of the end-cap. If installed correctly you should be able to gently pull on each wire without the wire coming out. In the event you need to remove the wire from the end-cap gently push a straightened paper-clip up the hole until the wire releases.

4. Install the End-Cap/Mounts into the Canopy

Insert a lamp into one pair of the end-caps/mounts and mark the location for each screw in the canopy. Remove the lamp and screw the mounts to the canopy using the correct size wood screws (not provided) to the location of the marks. After installing each pair, double-check that the lamps fit with just a small amount (1mm or less) of play.

5. Run the wire to the ballast

Universal Triad
Insert the colored wiring into the corresponding color-coded ports on the ballast. Secure ballast in a dry location. If you need to remove the wires from the ports gently push down on the slotted orange buttons next to each port with a flat bladed screw driver while gently pulling on the wire.

IceCap
Following the instructions provided by the ballast manufacturer. Secure ballast in a dry location.

6. Wire the Power-cord to the Ballast

Universal Triad
Take the 120v grounded power-cord and strip off the green ring terminal to expose 1/4” - 3/8” of bare wire. Twist each of the stranded wires into a secure bunch and insert the wiring into the color coded ports on the ballast. If installed correctly you should be able to gently pull on each wire without the wire coming out of its port.

IceCap
Take the 120v grounded power-cord and strip off the green ring terminal to expose 1/4” - 3/8” of bare wire. Following the instructions provided by the ballast manufacturer, wire the power-cord to the wiring harness.

7. Install Bulbs and Moisture-Proof Caps

Slid the caps onto the lamp and insert lamp into socket. Gently turn the bulb 90 degrees until you hear a click and then slid each cap towards the end and gently tighten down. Be sure not to turn the lamp as you tighten the cap. If the bulb turns in the socket it will not fire and it could possibly cause arching which is a safety hazard. Finally plug in the ballast and allow a few seconds for it to fire. If the lamps do not fire, unplug the power-cord and verify each connection and the wiring diagram.
