Help with noisy U-tube overflow
I have a 2 tube overflow that is making enough noise to be confused with a washing machine. I have one of the drain pipes running directly into the sump, and the second drain pipe runs through a 7 gallon DSB bucket and then into the sump. I've heard putting a ball valve on the drain pipes can control the air bubbles a bit and in turn cut down on noise, is this true? Is there anything else I can do? Please help!

There are some different ways to eliminate the slurping sound. Stockman or a Durso device comes to mind, both are made from PVC fittings ..The noise is actually caused by the vortex of the water falling into the tube and bringing air along with it..Sort of like your toilet flushing..So to eliminate the sound,we need a Vortex Interupter. This is how the above devices work. Ive a cheaper, easier fix that works really well. Its called a spoon !!Go to your kitchen, get 2 spoons, place each one into your downtube. Give it 2 minutes,, your noise is gone..Dont laugh till you try it.
