Pinpoint pH monitor problems
I have a pinpoint pH monitor. Its been working great for over a year. But just today after feeding my tank, it keeps jumping all over the place. It ranges from 7.3 all the way to 8.9. It does not stop on any number, rather jumps to all sorts of numbers continuously in that range. I've turned it off to reset it and that hasn't helped. I just calibrated it last week and it was working fine until about 10 minutes ago. Any ideas? Do i need a new probe?

The numbers will jump around if the cord does not have a secure connection to the face plate. I would disconnect/reconnect it a couple of times to see if that solves the problem. Secondly, If you run it off a 9 volt battery rather than a plug, you will illiminate any electrical noise that it may be picking up. Lastly I would clean the probe. The probe life is 1 year, so it may be replacement time, but the jumping around leads me to believe you're connection doesn't have solid contact.

I cleaned it just last week. I'll make sure the connection is ok. The probe is definately due for a replacement if the life on it is 1 year. Its been close to 2. I do run the AC adapter as well. I'll see about picking up a new probe. Thanks guys.

Pinpoints must have a terrrible design because mine can't handle any noise on the incoming AC as well. Battery works fine. Did you add any new electrical devices nearby?

No, I moved my tank last weekend. Same equipment though, I might have it plugged in differently though, I think at the old place it was plugged directly into the wall, and now its plugged into a surge suppressor with some other equipment. I'll change where i plug it in as well to see if that help. I think i've got a battery i could use too.

Also, see that the probe's cord doesn't run near any other electric cords or ballasts. I've seen mine jump significantly from nearby EMF sources, although not as much as what you indicate.

Well i moved the AC plug and plugged it directly into the wall. Problem solved!! I still need to order a new probe, but for the time being it is working fine again.
Thanks for all the replies!!! Very much appreciated guys. Miles
