They wont eat any corals as far as I know - but they do grow very fast and have been known (by others) to go after their fish. Personally they never went after my fish, pretty peaceful , but they do fight food.

They grow huge. I've had them, lost them, was very sorry---until I saw a grown one. One of the suppliers is including them in a 'cleaning crew' package and I think this is a big mistake, selling them to people with huge amounts of rockwork, because catching one is well nigh impossible. Think saucer. That kind of size.

They are scavengers, which can always be dangerous. Does it mean that they will be? Of course not, but my experience says yes.

I was finally able to get mine yesterday after moving and it is a big relief. It grew fast and became aggressive towards my fish so now it resides in the fuge. I was going to give it away, but it is a neat creature.

I just added a sally a couple days ago and haven't seen it come out to be viewed. I wonder now why I bought it if all it does is hide in the rocks. I mean the hermits are at least visible and active. I'm almost ready to give up on crabs other than hermits because what's the enjoyment if you can't see them. Plus with the chance of them getting aggressive the risk/ reward isn't favorable IMO.

Ours killed a gorgeous Rose Anemone trying to steal food; (rather, he shredded the rbta to flying pieces of pink string)
& down the toilet he went. . . (I don't usually approve of flushing sea creatures, but my husband and father assured me she was going home). she has not been missed! |

Like stated earlier in the thread mine as it grew became more desructive....stealing food from corals, catching fish, overall probably the worst addition I ever made to my tank, and to catch the pita had to basically tear down my system.....they are super fast and can cling to the rock work like you wouldnt believe

Wow! I guess I"m lucky. Mine is two years old, about 4 inches across from limb to limb and does nothing but eat algae and detritus from the rockwork and sand. Occasionally by CBS and the Sally snap at eaach other a bit, but they have their territories staked out well. The Sally and CBS are definitely among my favorit inhabitants. I don't have a lot of corals - but they have never been bothered.
