remote DSB requirements?
I'm wondering what is needed for a remote DSB. I have a BB 29gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump and was wondering if just having sand in the sump is adequate for a DSB or do I need lighting and LR. If I were to seed periodically and feed my tank would this be enough to reap the benefits of a DSB?
thanks |

Try looking in the 'All things Salty' forum for a thread on remote deep sand bed in a bucket. Might be of help.

just pour in some sand, doesn't even matter what type, and no to the light question.

Putting a sand bed of any kind in your BB tank defeats the purpose of BB in the first place...

Nitrates aren't the issue. If anything my tank is running too efficiently and my corals are on the pale side colorwise. There has been a lot of debate recently by BB users with this issue and I'm thinking of trying to increase food production in my system via the DSB. I like the remote idea so that I can maintain a clean tank and control my DSB seperately and change out if needed. No reason why a system can't have a little of both.
