Closed Loop System?
I keep seeing posts referring to these. What the heck is it?
Thanks. Phil |

the inlet and outlet of the pump is plumbed to the same water column. for example, inlet of pump comes from bottom of tank and outlet of pump goes in the side of the same tank. Hence the 'closed loop'. They are great ofr current without fear of over flowing the tank

Tehons got it right. WWW.melevsreef.com is the place to look. I built one just like he did. Used his design It works great. Super easy to do .

Ok, so essentially replaces powerheads, but puts the pump outside the tank. Cool.
I was contemplating a similar system for a freshwater river tank in a 33 Long. Thanks Phil

with a closed loop system, you have no head pressure like you would pumping water back to the tank from a sump, so you maximize the flow from the pump.
