curing live rock
I just wanted to ask a quick question about live rock curing. Is it ok to have light on it while cycling. I have 2 39 watt t5 on it for about 8 hours a day. also should i replace one of the 12000k with a anctic (spelling bad) t5. thanks

I have cured live rock several times in a 5 gal bucket using just a heater and a small pump for circulation. There really isn't a need for any lighting. In fact lighting can cause an algae bloom. Just need to check the nitrate, nitrite and ammonia cycle to see when it's done. Or when it doesn't smell bad it's usually done cycling.

You can use the lights, but, as noted, they can encourage pest algae to take hold. The light might help reduce the severity of the cycle, though, with photosynthesis taking up ammonia, etc, from the water. It's a gamble either way. I suspect leaving the lights off is the safest approach.
