ok whats the deal....
i havent used my UV sterilizer for 2 months... Today i hooked it up and my skimmer stoped skimming.... Any ideas?. I do have a light bio load that consists of two orange spotted gobies and one watchman goby. I also have a lobphyllia brain, xenias, Montipora digitata, Superman montipora, some zoos, GSP, branching hammer & a maxima clam. all in a 60 gallon. Any ideas?.

why are you running the uv in the first place? I have had a ton of problems trying to use mine and finally saw I was better off without it. sorry I dont know what happened, maybe it was something else like feeding or just having your hands in the tank to set up the sterilizer.

im running it because im using the sterlizer as back pressure to feed a home made denitrifier ( kinda hard to explain with out pics ).

haha ya found it! yes... i know your not supposed to run UVs with out some sort of mechanical filtration but in my case i had no choice. So what i did was i attatched a small air line from the Bottle, to the line going from the powerhead and UV. Since the UV added backpressure i knew it would feed water UP the line through the nitrate absorber up the bottle out the hose i attatched to the bottle cap. Down into the tank. Not bad ey?.

ey BTW how long did it take for you to notice the nitrates start going down?

I was testing daily, but you'll see noticable results within a week. The biggest drop I saw was from 50mg/l to 12.5mg/l within a week.
