Need good LR curing info
I feel like such a newbie, even though I've done this before. I am getting a 45# shipment of LR in tomorrow and am looking for curing info. Last time, I just dumped it in a tub and waited, then changed the water and waited, etc.
I am wondering about techniques to cut down on hitchhikers, etc. Any one seen any good threads or websites?

The only way to cure it is to wait. There are various "snake oils" on the market that claim to speed up the process, but they don't work. At least, they didn't for me. As far as good techniques on cutting down hitchhikers, Just a good eye and a pair of tweezers are probably the best. You don't want to do anything like a freshwater dip because you will also kill what bacteria is left on the rock.

I'm not in a hurry, just want it done right. I definitely wont leave it in the dining room again though. The wife almost killed me over the smell!

what i do is ...... put the rock in your tub with a small recic. pump and heater test the water weekly then give the rock a good scrubbing ( i do it in a pail ) followed by a 50% water change repeat each week till tests read 0 to cut down on hitchhikers i do a really salty dip. sg of 1.035 - 1.040 for about a minute. its amazing what you'll see scurry out of the rock. then get rid of what you don't want and keep the rest. oh yeah and nice fro |

I'm going to run a skimmer and carbon on this batch even though its going in the basement. I didn't like the house smelling like a rotting shore line.
