Fishin' Times

Just wanted to give an FYI (since we're always looking for the best deal)- I stopped at Fishin' Times today to see what Greg had in stock and noticed several specials.

The specials were on clams and on boxes of fiji and tonga branch live rock.

Now I know not everyone has had a "good" experience with Greg, but it looks like he is trying IMO.

The clams are below the group purchase price. I don't want to mention the prices due to the user agreements. I would give him a call for all the details.

I believe the clams were going to be the 3-4" ultra croceas.

Talking Fishing Times

Been using Fishing Times for about 3 yrs. now and Greg seems to have good days and bad days. Kinda tells you a condenced version of everything. His LS is very good and I have never had any kind of problem. If you get to know him and not just stop in every once in a while, he has more to say! (Just a salesman I guess) He can get almost anything you want, but you have to wait till makes an order. Only been in this group a short time but, if more members went there and got to know him he might be willing to give all of us a better price!! Just a thought!

I got one of his clams today :P BTW he was curious why folks in here were bashing him. I think hes an ok dude personally. Like any place, you should go there knowing what your looking for and RESEARCH it before hand. If you ever get talked into buying something for your tank that isnt compatible or you dont know how to care for it, that is YOUR fault. Either way, I have had good luck there as well and his prices are the best around by a good margin. TMR seems to match priceing as well which makes them super cheap if you do your homework as well and find a good price online.

I was there yesterday and he had a nice sellection that was cheapest prices arround. His clams had good prices if you let him know about the discount. He was amased that the word got arround so fast. Greg is a good guy and runs into the LFS v. the Internet dealers. As we all know no LFS can beet the internet dealers for dry goods and parts. I think his frustrations come when people price from him then give him greif about his prices being higher then the internet order places. IMO all LFS need to make some $$ if they don't where will we buy our livestock, certianly not on the internet shipping will kill you. Also if you need something in an emergency situation where would you go? Anyway Greg mentioned giving the CIMA club a discount on certian intervals, as motivation to visit his store. I am sure he would put in a large livestock order for this event. I for one think this would be great there are some things I would still like to buy. What is everyone elses thoughts?

I think people are quick to judge these businesses.

an unsatisfied customer tells an average of 10 people about there experience.

a satisfied customer tells ad average of 1 person.

these people run small businesses and have lot less buying power than an online store that is going to buy 1000 fish at a time.

I have done a fair amount of my trading from the net it is hard not to. but as far as livestock I like to see what I am buying.

my sister lives in pekin where is the store located, maybe it is time to visit my sister.

Also fish stores are different than a typical store. Fish stores are all about timing. If you get there at the right time, after the right shipment, the store may appear much better or much worse than the average day. Any store can look like crap given the time you visit it.

Not to tote TMR (I know Henry dislikes them for what ever reason) but the shipment he got in this week was amazing. All of the fish looked very healthy and were all top quality.

He said he had a new supplier that he was trying out and the fish were shipped in 6 hours v 32 hours from the other place he was using and I could tell.

The Wrasse I got is hard to come by even with the big online dealers and he priced matched it with the best price I could find.
