Quietest external pumps rated around 1000gph?
In your experience, which pump would you recommend thats about 1000gph and quiet? Thanks.

I used to run a Mag 9.5 and it was very quiet. I now run a Mag 18 and I am happy with it.
I hear the Quiet One pumps are also pretty good, but some have defects and are noisy. |

when i switched from a mag9.5 to a quiet one 3000 my tank temp dropped from 84 to 78. i was able to remove the fans from my tank setup after switching over. i also thought the mag was really noisy and just inefficient in terms of energy.

Hmm, that might be why I had to buy a chiller.
I almost crashed my tank the other day because I moved the Mag 18 too close to a glass pane. The pump sucked itself to the glass and raised my temp to 84.9. Yipes! Then again, that is probably more stupidity than the fault of the pump. |

The Poseidon 4 is very quiet.
I'm running it on a 110gal. with 2X250 wt. DE halides inside a hood. Also running are a skimmer pump, an Iwaki 40, and a Tunze Stream. The 4" variable speed fans are running on the slow speed and the tank is 80deg. w/the lights on. Many variables here but I hope this helps.

Eheim 1262. Very quiet, unbeatable reliability, and unlike other pumps, it acutally pumps what they say it will with standard sized piping.

wow. thatnks for the input everyone. Just thought I'd mention, this is for a 40g hex that I'm about to put together. I've used the eheim before, and it did work well but I was wondering if maybe I should try something new. I want to try and do this without a chiller if possible.
