Questions about using Trashcans to store H2O
I purchased two 35G trash cans to store my RO-FW and SW for top off and change outs. Other than rinsing them, do I need to clean them with anything?
Also, I understand the idea of using a powered to keep the SW good and mixed, but can I attach a hose to a powered to move the water from can to bucket? I don't really want to install a bulkhead in the can if I don't have to. I remember from my school days having a waterbed and I had an electric pump that worked well to drain it. It was a simple small, cheap inline pump. Can these be used, or will the SW ruin them? What do you folks do. Thanks! |

Yeah, I actually have a Mag 24 to pump the water from my basement where my Typhoon 3 is to my tank upstairs. The pump is plumbed inside my trash can to a quick disconnect on the outside so I can connect a garden hose.
I would rinse the garden hose real well though. I hooked it up to a powerhead in my sink and and let water cycle through it for about an hour with a little Alconox mixed in and then for another hour with just clean water.

Alconox, the Master Cleaner? WK suspects that Tehon works in a lab.
![]() I keep my water in plastic trash bins and never has a problem. I just soak em overnight in plain water, throw that away and after a quick rinse with some RO water use em. Of course, if you have Alconox in your kitchen feel free to use it. ![]()

Well since I don't have connections, I think I will just fill them up and let them sit and then rinse them with RO. I appreciate your help!
