I recently converted my 10 year old 90 gallon reef tank from crushed coral to a DSB. The tank has cycled without any loss of life. The Nitrates are higher than I would like (25), Question is how long does it normally take before a DSB will start to reduce Nitrates?

I hear that a 3" sandbed isn't the best idea.
Usually go shallow, under 2" for looks or 6" or more for filtration. In between may cause problems. Let's see what others say though...

Usually it takes about 6 mos. for a DSB to be established.
