What is the best way to raise the specific gravity
Right now I'm getting a reading of 1.21. Do you think this is too low. Can you just add saltmix to the water to raise it?

probably better off adding a bit more concentrated solution with your topoff water instead of just adding plain water

What do you have int he tank? If it is a reef, 1.025-1.026 is best. as for raising it, just use salt water for your top offs until it reaches your desired SG.

1.21 ?? 1.21 is REALLY high. I think you mean 1.021. 1.021 is near the middle of the "ideal" range marked on my Coralife hydrometer. However, I think most people on RC shoot for 1.025 or so. I saw a poll recently that said over 1/2 of the people who responded aim for that SG. NSW is supposedly close to 1.026. I have seen arguments for what SG is best for what kind of tank. Most recently I saw a thread where some of the folks w/ FO systems tend to keep their SG lower than those with a lot of corals. I don't know what the right answer is, but mine is between 1.023 and 1.024.
As with all changes in a SW tank, slowly is probably best. How about setting the SG on your water change water slightly higher than its current value each time you do a WC ? Matt |

Jason seems right, just add salt water in your top off. I run 1.026, and it seems fine. JD
