Water has a yellow tint to it?

Tank info:
FOWRL tank
125G with skimmer and about 100 lbs. of live rock.
2 Dwarf angels
1 yellow tang.
Tank is about 2 months old.
Nitrates at about 10 ppm.

The water has a definate yellow tint to it? It sometimes clears up and looks great but them will tun yellow.
I also grow brown algea pretty quick.

Anyone know why I have the yellow tinted water?

Put in some activated carbon in a caniser filter or in a filter bag in high flow. If you have high lighting i wouldn't add too much carbon at once because the rapid increase in light due to the clear water may shock the corals.

I agree, carbon should clean it right up, and maybe even make the tank smell better (if that is an issue too)

Excellent info guys, I appreciate that advice. I have a Magnum 350 and I'll out some carbon in it and see what happens.

I run carbon with the Magnum 350 too.....it's a nice thing to have around.....

At this point in your aquarium I would suggest starting to use a protine skimmer for the active removal of disolved organic matter. A new aquarium often goes through diatom algae blooms as part of its establishment. To limit this you can use resins in your Magnum to remove phosphates and silicates.

For organic waste removal you could also start a refugium and feed the overgrowth to your fish, instead of doing a protine skimmer. But those would be my suggestions.

It always gets worse before it gets better.

aceaquatics - I am running a protein skimmer, and it is pulling some good junk out of the water. I also have a homemade DSB made out of a rubbermaid container with about 7 inches of sand. I wanted to try this before setting up a refugium to try and control the nitrates. The DSB is about 3 weeks old.

What is Diatom algae blooms?
