Question Epoxy - Reef Safe - From Lowes or Home Depot?

What type of Epoxy can I buy from Lowes or Home Depot that is safe to use with corals?

Thanks

Yep.

It's white, states for fiberglass. Drives your skimmer crazy for a while.

Make sure it's not the kind with metal in.

does this stuff work better than the aquastick epoxy made for aquariums? I hate aquastick with a passion haha the stuff is so hard to get to hold your corals down

i'm pretty sure...don't quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure it's basically the same stuff. the difference, aquamend @ HD = ~$3...aquastick @ LFS =~$15.

No

It's the same as any epoxy putty. It does not like to stick to rocks with algae or loose particles. Are you trying to stick frags or whole corals with a base on them??

PC-11 works very well and I have had no problems with water contamination.

PC-11 is a two part epoxy that comes in a tube. Hardens like ceramic. Great for sealing leaking pumps and bulk heads. Can be found at HD and most hardware stores.

What is the best method to use this stuff? Do you have to expose coral to air, or do you do it all underwater?

(Sorry I am a Noob)

NO! NO! NO! Don't use PC 11 to attach corals to rock. It is good for sealing glass, metal, plastic, etc.

If you are using the putty (aquamend) just break of a small piece say an inch or so. Mold it around in your fingers untill the two parts mix and it is one color. Push it into the bottom of your coral base. Leave it as a roundish blob and then push the whole thing onto the rock where you want it. Cross your fingers and hope it stays. Sometimes several tries are needed. Its better if you can force them in some hole, nook or crack. You can try plastic or wood toothpicks to hold it in place till it sets up.

Happy glueing

Now my question on this, how can one get epoxy OFF the base of a coral? I bought a coral that just has this big *** blob of putty on it and it makes it impossible to set it anywhere (has an upside down V basically on the bottom). I'd love to be able to get this stuff off of my carnation so I can reputty the thing myself.

Dremel. Or side cutters might work.
