Live rock turning white ???

I just noticed my purple corraline turning white on alot of my rocks.What would cause this ???my water parameters seem fine.
ALK=9.6
CAL=430
PH=7.9 - 8.1
MG=1280
I started dosing with strontium recently and following the manufacturers directions.Have not tested for it though.Is it possible to overdose on strontium ?? Any replies would help thanks.

how long have you had the rock, i intentionly left a piece of rock with bests on it out of the water for 24 hrs then baked it in the oven for 30 mins at 400 degrees to kill anything that was on it off, the corline stayed duyring all this but once i set it in my curing tank it all tured white

Here's a good article on strontium
In short, it is possible to overdose it, although I don't know the effect on coralline. A more likely cause for bleaching coralline would be an increase in light or perhaps low pH (7.9 is on the low side). The basic rule is "don't dose anything you don't test for".

hmm dunno, your temp ok, this would cause bleaching of your corals as well, try checking the temp with a diffrent thomoeter then what yo have on your tank, heat is the only other issue i can think of other the light and your current tank discrition doesnt appear to indicated to much light for your tank

Have you changed your lights recently? I've found that under metal halides, the coralline on the top of the rock bleaches. Only the stuff in the shadows survives. If you've increased your lighting, maybe that's what's happeing...
