salt water storage until water change... questions/techniques

well my question starts with this....i made salt water about 2 or 3 weeks ago and its been storing...its reef crystals... about 30 gallons in my rubbermaid trashcan. is it ok to use this after storing?...keeping in mind i have a 600 gph pump...heater...and big airstone in it.

also it seems the alk level went down....its about 5 or 6 right now and i tested it when i made it at first and i cant remember exactly what it was at but it certianly wasnt alarming like this...i think 10. what would make this do that? the big air stone?

what do you do to store water? what percautions should i take? how long does the water last?

thanks for and advice

I would think, since you kept it circulating and airated, it should be fine. If alk is in question, add some baking soda to it a little at a time until it comes up to your liking. I had about 10gal left over from a batch I made and it sat for about two weeks without being circulated. I tossed a power head in it and airated for a few hours, added it to my tank with some freshly mixed water and saw no ill effects.

Sorry kids, your college fund is gone, but the tank looks SWEET right?
