Natural Ocean Water Vs Mixed Salt & Water
Just pondering, and no need to brag (laughs) but I live only about two minutes from a very clean mostly untouched beach in Australia and it would be no hasle to park the car and grab a few buckets of Natural ocean water but on the other hand I see all you pros using Quick mix ocean salt and brands alike in my case what would you guys recomend I do. use the real stuff or the manmade stuff?? thnx Daniel

IMO, if you're able to get a few miles offshore and collect water there then it is your best option. Otherwise use a mix.

I use natural sea water but I do not attempt to go and get it from the sea myself. Our two oceans aquarium in cape town has a membership option where they provide their members with filtered sea water for home aquariums. I would also say that if you do ger water yourself get it from as deep as possible. even then their will be risk or so I am told

I use fresh sea water i get from the beach. I dont filter it first BUT I do have a Fluval 404 on my 20g though. My tank loves the fresh sea water VS the mixed water.

the prob. with getting sea water so close to the beach is that you will have alot of nasties in it. as the beaches are natures skimmers
