Coralife super skimmer
I got ahold of a coralife 125 super skimmer yesterday. I can honestly say it is the best skimmer that has been on my tank in 7yrs. I took off the berlin HOB venturi style classic skimmer, Installed the coralife and it immediately started pulling crap from the water.. Unreal. The only complaint I have about the skimmer is having to unscrew the collection cup each time I want to dump it.. I never thought I would actually have to put the tube onto the drain nipple but I gues I will have to now!

CSS220 on my 75g, I agree, I love the things, man it pulls the gunk.
I don' really find it a pain to unscrew the cup, it's not really a bad thing because the lift tube should be cleaned any how to achieve maximum crap-pulling power...

Did you adjust the water level in the chamber?
It should be in the neck right at the taper of the riser tube. Do you feed oily foods, and how stocked is the tank, also if you run a lot of carbon, foam may slow.

My water level is right at the narrowest point which is at the base of the riser tube. I feed my five fishes with brine shrimps, the others are emerald crabs, hermit crabs and some corals.
There are only air bubbles but no foams so far.

I just got the 220 yesterday and plugged it in just to see how it would work and test it out.
I had it plugged in for 2 hrs. in my sump as-is with no mods and it took out about 1/2" of dark crap in that short amount of time. I'm not sure you could hope for much better. I'm glad I read the forums here at RC prior to purchasing, because I was planning to spend quite a lot more. This is a steal for $150. They have the "film canister" mod now included on the intake venturi that I had read about. They also have an air breather in the output tube (not sure if that is new, but seemed to be a problem for some). Anyway, GREAT skimmer. I plan to plumb the output with PVC and get it going in my sump for good. Also considering adding ozone to the venturi intake. |
