Mushroom on hermit crab shell

I have a hermit crab that has moved into a shell that a mushroom was attached to. Now this poor lil crab is carrying around this mushroom. Is there any way to get the mushroom off of the shell - or will it eventually get tired of being mobile and detatch itself?

You can take a razor and slice it off the shell.

I think you have a girl hermit crab. She just wanted a prettier outfit!

That or let it figure things out on its own... personally I think it would be pretty cool to see a mushroom on the move in my tank lol as long as the critter isn't struggling
