Xenia behavior
I have had some pulsing xenia for two weeks. It has looked great, pulsing 30 minutes after I put it in the tank and doing great. Today, I noticed that it is closed up. It looks like that a night, but never during the day.
Water Parameters: Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0-2.5ppm pH 8.2 -8.4 Temp 80 Alk 10 dKh Ca 340ppm (working on it!) I started dosing B-ionic 5 days ago to bring up my Ca. I have only been adding 5mL a day to see if it changes, but it really hasn't done anything pH wise so I don't think thats a problem. The only other change in the past two weeks was the addition of a skunk shrimp. Otherwise, all I have are two Ocellaris Clowns, some lavender mushrooms, and a small clean up crew. Is this normal behavior for xenia or am I missing something??? |

I wouldn't worry about it unless it lasts for an extended period. Xenia exhibits some strange behaviou and you should get used to it. Some mornings I awake to find all my xenia stalks laying down. They are really just spreading by 'walking' all over the tank.

Now they are open and looking great. Maybe something crawled on them.
How long does it take for them to split? There are new "hands" growing all around the original stalks. |
