Naso Tang not eating
I have had a 5-6 in naso in my tank for the last year and he wats like a pig. Today when i put out nori and feed he didnt even look at it. He ate last time i fead which was 2 days ago and ate nori yesturday but the way this fish eats I find it very distubing that he isnt even looking at the food. I feed him out of my hand most of the time. He has no problems with the other tangs minus a blue that they display to eachother but no acutal fighting. Visibly he doesnt seem to have any signs of bacterial infection and no ich. If anyone has any ideas as to what might be the cause let me know. I did just try to install a CA reactor but its not running yet and just did a 25g water change. Prams are all perfect, corals are opening fine and the other fish are happy as can be. Water temp is 77-78 and sal is at 1.025. Other tangs in tank are yellow, blue, and orange tipped also a foxface and flame angel and the rest are gobies and a mandarin all of which he gets along with. Anyone that might have any advice please feel free to post! thanks in advance.

I would give it a couple of days. Add some garlic to the nori. That might entice him to eat.

Thats odd. My naso eats like a pig and never had this problem *knock of wood*. I agree with the garlic, maybe that should work on him. Keep us updated...

get some live brine. He should eat this. I would not worry. If he starts eating in a day or 2 he should be ok.my tang occasionally gets picky and will not eat certain foods. also try some

i got him to eat 5-6 pellets today but nothing else, i tried brine, emerald entree, blood worms, nori and all with garlic and he is getting really skinny. I did notice that he has some gray material coming out of his rectum. Not sure what it might be but im still very worried. He is my favorite and by far hardiest (till now) fish. Has survived ( and never even was infected by) ich and a fungus that knocked out a few of his tank mates from a LFS ill never buy from again.

I dont think you should be feeding blood worms to any saltwaterfish at all. It is not healthy for them.

he got skinny and died within a few days?
that makes no sense. It usually takes weeks for a fish to perish from not eating. Usually if a fish stops eating (that normally eats like a pig) it is a internal bacteria infection which is easily remedied with some marycyn II. You can usually tell by their poop being white and stringy.

I am posting this here as your inbox was full.
I can get maracyn II at almost any place that sells fish including petsmart and the like. They have a freshwater and saltwater version and either will work. It is tablet form and would need to be administered in a quarantine tank. You put in a tablet per ten gallons I believe and I also think this needs to be done every day until the infection is gone. The smaller the tank the cheaper it is to treat the animal. I had a tank raised clown for 3 years that stopped eating. I administered the maracyn 2 and the clown began to eat again and fully recovered. I have been through this several times and have always cured it as long as I caught it in time. It is extremely important to treat for the recommended time. DO NOT PUT THE MEDICINE IN A TANK WITH CORALS. keep a good eye on the rest of your fish and be prepared to treat them if need be. If you don't have a quarantine tank get one and a hang on filter. I recommend the millenium series by marineland. If you don't have a q tank and filter you also don't have any biological support to keep the fish alive while in quarantine. I recommend bio-spira it works. It isn't easy to find and it is kinda expensive as well but it does work. Good luck, C.G.
