Too Late For Dori

For those of you who read my last post about my damsels terrorizing my Hippo Tang, I regret to say that I was unable to remove them from the tank in time. Dori is dead.
On a side note though, out of frustration, I tore the tank apart and was able to catch the two profanity removed. They are now residing in my sump until I return them to the LFS tomorrow.

Thats a shame. I just took some damsels out of my tank a couple of weeks ago. They messed with everyone. Now I have a peaceful tank.

Sorry about your Dori. I know how horrible bully fish can be. I had to rip apart my tank tonight to try and get a supposed peaceful orange back basslet out. That dang fish ate 1 cleaner shrimp, 5 peppermint shrimp, a firefish goby, a green clown goby that I've had forever and because of him and my tank being all taken apart to remove him, my favorite fish off all, a beautiful fat sixline wrasse got spooked and swam into my anemone. He got stung so bad that he started swimming all crazy and managed to swim through the gutter guard I have in my overlow, ended up in the sump, swam through all the baffles and ended up in my pump.

I can't get my liverock back to the way it used to look and the tank looks aweful. My anemone is really upset, I just feel sick. I did get that nasty fish out of my tank though and in a fit of rage I threw him onto the floor and beat him to death with my net.

I ALWAYS had problems with damsels and my other fish, I am hating myself that I even have this one blue damsel in my 120 right now, can't catch him and really don't have the time to break down my tank to. He is nipping at my Yellow tang and my Anthia, I am going to build a trap when I have time and get him out asap, I would suggest to others not to have damsels with other fish and to really not have them at all, they are too aggressive and territorial. Then we wonder why they are only 3$-4$ a piece.

This is not intended to be a flame, but I would just like to chime in and say, before you take your aggression out on your next fish, maybe it's a learning experience for you. Pehapse this could have all been avoided if research was done on the fish's diet before putting it into the tank. We've all had mishaps, but the only real thing(person) to blame is yourself for not doing more research before buying. If you read what you did again, you basically beat and killed a fish for doing what it normally does, it did not do it to spite you.

I thought there was a website link mentioned a couple of weeks ago in another thread about the least aggressive damsels....? What kind of Damsels were these? I don't remember all of them on the list, but IIRC, the Blue-Green Chromis are supposedly fairly passive. The "Blue Devil" was one of the worst.

i agree damsels are very beligerant at times
in my tank i have a clown (its a damsel two) a dori tang a yellow tang and 3 b/g chromis and 2 blue/yellow devils
aside from an occasional spat everybodys is fine

chromis dont hold territoritys so thats why they are so passive

Actually, I posted it on three seperate website forums. Is there a law somewhere that states I am not allowd to dicuss the same topic with more than one group of people. If there is, I must have missed it.

I guess the imprtant thing is they are out of my main tank and won't be able to terrorize anything other than each other.

My terror fish is a Dori!

It nips all my other fish (yellow tang, 2 maroon clowns, royal gramma, foxface) and yesterday I saw it bite my squamosa clam!

Has anyone ever had such an agressive hippo?

Yeah, never put damsels in a tank

We had 2 Tomato's
2 Blue damsels
(1) 3 stripe damsel
And a sharp nosed puffer...in a 29g
for over 2 years

We didn't know it you couldn't do that
Weekly water changes, plenty of fake plants, fake rocks
The blues stayed together as did the tomotoes
The puffer ignored them all & cruised the tank
The 3 stripe ruled most of the tank

All fish were introduced to the tank at the same time when a friend moved to CA

We then moved & upgraded to a 60g hex...and a 55g
Gave the damsels away

Introducing fish is usually where you run into the problems
I've received free damsels that people wanted to get rid of, but doubt I will ever buy another damsel

Not to take the thread off subject, but, my hippo picks at my lps and my open brain corals.
I finally removed him bec the brain corals would not open at all and he was taking bites out of the lps.
I have several green chromis and they are completely peaceful.
