Feather duster placement in tank

Should they be placed in between the rocks or on the sand bed?

I have mine in my sandbed and look good. You can pretty much put them anywhere in the tank they will eventually attach themselves to something. They can be in the rocks or the sand, but just not in a very high flow area.

They are almost maintenance free. They require no light to survive, and do good in good water quality. Just a few doses of phyto every week and ther're good to go.

never lay them down on the sand bed tho because the " feathers" dont work well at collecting food from what i heard and saw. ( had one shed feathers when on sand)
apparently they creat a small flow from the bottom to the top of the feather and capture the food from the back . (book said it.. forget what one)

remember this tho/ the worms can come out of the tube and start a new home.. ( altho they willmost likely be eaten)

just stick the duster inj there and lookfor thining of the feathers... thining of the feathers usualy happend before shedding.. so move him to a bbetter place if you have to.

I had one feather duster. It is in the upper 1/2 of the tank on the rock structure. The water quality is good. The thing is growing so fast I have to keep fragging it to keep it contained. i dose phyto 3-4 times per week and it is doing excellent.

you can place them in either of those two places. The only trouble I have ever had with my feather dusters was placing them in an area of flow which is too high. I had them in my tank before it was cycled, with sky high nitrites and they were fine. If their "feathers" are blowing around like a storm, its too much flow.

Just out of curiosity, how do you frag a feather duster?
