How do you plumb your chiller to your return?

I have a chiller that has a 500gph min to 800gph max flow. Since chillers in general cannot handle the high flow, how do you guys usually plump it to the return? Do you use two separate return pumps? Would I just use my mag 7 to the chiller and then to the tank? However, I'm thinking my return water would be really weak (400gph?). Is this the reason why people do a closed loop or just add a couple seios to increase water movement in the tank? Thanks!

Rich

I have my Chiller hooked up to a Canister. I also keep some charcoal in there... makes for a nice system, canisters are cheap and effecient too!

I plumb mine inline with my return pump and then back into the tank. I'm using a 1/4hp chiller with a 1100 gph pump running through it. It works fine...the maximum volume is so there is enough contact time to cool the water going into the tank...this can vary slightly...

I have the same problem plumbing a chiller to my uniquarium. One LFS advised me to upgrade from Rio 1700 to a Rio HF pump. No need to add an additional pump just use a HF pump. Please need more sugegstions or if this is good enough. I need to setup my chiller before it starts heating up again.

can't you hook it up through your closed loop if you t'd off the in and out lines? although i'd assume there'd be a lot of buildup inside of the piping.
