Help, i think my tang is dying.

Help, i think my tang is slowely dying. It is a yellow tang, and has been in my 50 gallon for almost a year. Never showed any signs of weekness. when feeding three days ago (formula 2 pellets), i noticed that he wasnt as aggressive as he used to be, and didnt get much food.

Yesterday i walk in the room and see him sucked to the side of my MJ 1200. i quickly unplug it and he swims off. He looks pretty skinny (playdo belly), so i feed him formula 2 frozen and Nori, and hes eating like a champ and swimming around all day.

Now this morning the lights went on and hes swimming around, and come back like an hour later and hes stuck into my other MJ1200. Looks kind of skinny again and i feed mysis, hes eating again.

Salinity (1.023), ammonia (o), Nitrite (barely detectable), Nitrate (10-15). No new fish added in last 6 months or so. 10 gallon Water changes every two weeks.

Other tank mates include 2 O. CLowns, dottyback, firefish, yellow watchman, fire & Cleaner shrimp. Various soft corals.

I really dont want to loose him, he is one of, if not my favorite fish. Honeslty, im looking at him now and i would think hes fine, but i assume that theyre is no way a healthy yellow tang would get sucked into a MJ1200. (they have the cage around the intake), no sponge though.

any thoughts will be extremly helpful.

thanks,

Jeff

If you can, move the intake of your MJ1200 to somewhere where this tang guy cannot access it easily. Behind a rock or something along those lines.

Maybe put him into a hospital tank? As long as he's eating I still think there's hope. Just make sure he's nice and comfy.

I lost my yt to my tunze...he got stuck in the intake and was pretty ripped up when I turned it off. He died not long after that.

My yellow tang was one of my favorite fish too but IMO they're not the smartest fish ever.

if nothing has been added to the tank in 6 months, you shouldnt be showing any nitrite. Ive never shown any since the addition of my clarkiis. Maybe someone is picking on him for some reason??
