Megaflow Overflow Noises
I HAVE A MEGAFLOW OVERFLOW 90 GALLON TANK WHICH I JUST SET UP. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS A TRICKS OR SOLUITIONS TO GETTING RID OF THE SOUND OF A TOILET FLUSHING THAT COMES FROM THE PIPE? I TRIED TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT ON THE OVERFLOW PIPE AND I CLOSED THE BALL VALVE UNTIL THE SOUND STOPPED BUT NOW MY FLOW COMING INTO THE SUMP/FUGE JUST SUCKS. IM ALL OUT OF IDEAS, DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE AN IDEA?
THANKS MIKE

I inserted a piece of airline in the hole and throttled back the pump and it worked for me.

I had the same issue in stereo. I was using a Mag 18 pump for my overflows. I stuck a Mag 12 on there and no more noise. I really want more flow, but the noise was annoying to say the least.

Have you tried Durso pipes?

Use a smaller pump, all you need is a small pump that can do 200-300gph. That will prevent the toilet noises better than durso and stockman standpipes will. Here...

The all glass mega flow is the durso design and the design is nowhere near the 600 GPH they brag about.

They will "FLOW" 600gph, just not very well (certainly not quietly!!) Try turning your flow down and see what happens.

I guess I should have explained more. They should handle 1200 gph so that when you run 600 through them ear plugs are not required.

Maybe the sound of Niagra Falls inspired the design!!

I used both bulkheads and upped the pipes to 1.5. I have dual 1.5 dursos in each megaflow on my 210 Megaflow and I am running 1500 GPH through them dead quiet. Yes they will fit but it is tight.

So do you have 1.5" pipe with a reducer to 1 inch?

I have a 125g with dual megaflows. Im using an ehiem 1264, Ive been playing with my ball valves for two days now both send and return. Im sucking to much air into the sump. Where do you end the lines in the sump top of water, bottom of tank, or doesn't it make a diffrence

Try cutting a piece of plexiglass and cover the "TOP" of the overflow. You can test this therory before purchaseing the plexiglass with your hand

Mine splash down about 2 inches from the top of the water surface in the sump (not submerged.)
Try opening the drain ball valves all the way (no need to restrict them) and every day, close the return ball valves a little bit at a time.

I like the less flow theory... I run about 200 GPH through my sump on my 135---- about half that flow feeds my (reciruculating) skimmer directly--- whisper quiet, no microbubbles, less power consumption...

I've got the same setup (90g with Megaflow). I use a Mag 9.5 for a return pump, and use a ball valve to limit the return to about 80%. No noise at all.

Im thinking if I try a 2" or 2.5" from top to balkhead it might not suck so much air down what do you think?
