bulkhead question
i'm going to be setting up a 56 column witha 29g sump. i have a mag 9.5 to use a return and i was thinking about getting a scwd also. i'm going to be getting my tank drilled and was wondering if a 1" bulkhead would work ok for my overflow or would i have to use 1 1/2"?
thanks, casey |

I would probably go with 1 1/2". I think the 1" is only rated for about 600 gph.

IMO all drain fittings should be a minimum of 1 1/2" pvc.

Wouldn't the excess pipe size create a louder drain with more air bubbles?

You will get air bubbles either way. For the noise I would build a Durso standpipe the can pretty much take care of the noise.

Get rid of bubbles by using a filter sock.

I'm in Jamestown. The filter sock works pretty good.
