29gal oven
Temp has climbed to 84 from 79 where I have the heater set. How can this be?? The only thing I have done is add a fish a week for the last three weeks. Three fish and cleanup crew are not working that hard. Power head need cleaning? Heater gone wacko? Tank being in the kitchen affected by stove/oven?

I would go w/the heater going wacko. The cheapo heater I had in my 29g crapped out once, and spiked to 88...........I lost my cleaner shrimp and a couple of snails.
I wouldn't worry too much w/what degrees are on the heater; they don't know what you're putting the heater in. I would adjust the heater until you get to where you want, and then see how much fluctuation you have during the day and night. I have a titanium heater in my 70g, and it is rock steady. Might look into one of those....... hth

I'd say either climate or bad heater. Set the temp lower on the heater and see if that helps, or just opt for a new one.

For my 30 gal I have my Jager 150 watt heater set at 71 -73 degrees depending on temp outside to keep it between 79 - 80 degrees.
The 50 watt in my 10 is set at 73 degrees and I never have to touch it it stays between 79 - 80 degrees. |

Hey, your from kinston! I just moved from Jacksonville 2 yrs ago. I know how the weather is this time of year where you are. I used to have all kinds of problems with cold nights and warm days.
