Does anyone have their fuge sitting behind their display tank?
I'm trying to think of different ways to set up a refugium, and placing it under my tank is probably not an option....at least with the current stand I have.
The tank is a 65 gallon, but it's a weird sized one...36 wide x 18 deep, and 21/22 tall. The stand only has one small door on the front, and the tank I have that I'd like to use for a refugium is a 30 long....I think it's also 36" wide, and there is no way to get it into the bottom of the stand. I also worry alot about a refugium flooding, and it seems like if you had one sitting level with your tank if might be a safer proposition. What I'm wondering is if anyone has their refugium sitting fairly level with their display tank and sitting behind (or beside) it? If so do you have any pics of it.....so I can see how it looks. |

I only had about a 12x15 inch area under my stand for a refugium and there was no way to make a tank fit so i made a refugium out of a kitchen trachcan. It was the right dementions I just had to cut the height down a bit. I then added a sink drain style fitting to the side of it and have it overflowing back into my sump. A small pump feeds the refugium. Its working great.

I'm not sure there is a way to completely eliminate flooding. Just last week a sea cucumber got lodged in one of my refugium drains and it overflowed. My refugium is slightly above the top of the tank and drains by gravity. Its fed from the sump by an Iwaki 55. Here's a pic, the tank is just on the other side of the wall.
