55-75 lighting,border,refugim

Allright...here we go. I am looking into getting a new tank. i like the 55-75 size and i was wondering about the border around the top and bottom of the tank. My LFS has a 75 in the light oak or pine trim but i like the black. Can you just paint it or something or should i just wait and get one that is already black. Also i am most likely getting a hood for this one so i am not going to be using a hanging pendant. I have used metal halides in the past but for a 48" fixture it seems like a powercompact is they way to go for Price. are they good for growing corals because my tank will be a reef tank. If they are good what numbers of bulbs do i want for a reef tank. I like the blue spectrum but not too blue. what is this 50/50 and such???Also what is the point of the refugim?? why do you need sand,light,plants,.... in your sump when you already have them in your tank?? i am just wondering because in the past i have just used hang-on filters and it seems like alot of people are using sumps instead of hang on's.

I know this is alot of questions but i know there is knowledge on this site...alot of it....
thanks

I'm sure you could paint it with some krylon fushion.
