I got the 100GPD unit all set up and tested a few day ago. Today I went and made up 25 gal of RO?DI water ( 5 gal at a time) to do a water change. I teated TDS at the start and it was 0PPM. at 15 gal it was 13PPM and at 25 gal it was 5pmm. Now there ia a rust color in the bottom of the carobn canister. Is this normal?? I did the 10 min fast flush and DI bypass before making the water the tap water is 200tds but I thought this thing would maintain a zero TDS output.

No, it's not right, don't use the water, the DI water should have zero TDS reading. Maybe the connection is incorrect. Are you taking the DI water from the right output? Check with Walter for the correct connection.

Yes I have the right output, will recheck the connection although it seemed easy to hook up-thanks for the suggestions.

It sounds like everything is fine. The first bunch of water coming out of unit (maybe 5-20 gallons) contains stuff from the membrane that needs to be washed off. It looks to me like your TDS went up and then was coming down. I did the same thing you did -- I should have wasted the first several gallons directly from the RO and then connected up to the DI...
The only problem you'll run into is you got the 100 gpd membrane which doesn't block as much stuff. This will cause you to go through your DI resin more quickly than with the 75 gpd membrane. That's not a tremendous deal, though, unless your input TDS is high. You can always switch out to a 75 gpd the next time you replace the membrane in +/- 3 years. Jack

Test your TDS in a very clean cup (wipe it out very well, fill it with RO/DI, wipe it out again and then test), not a bucket. This will give you a good baseline.
Secondly, as stated, you need to clean the oils preservative out of the membrane while running it for a while on DI bypass, then DI. Bean |
