I'd go for the t5's- better par value. I have to make a plug for metal halide- for $180-$200, you could build your own dual 175w mogul base set-up, or find a used or retro-fit kit and buy the bulbs. It's a personal preference, but many concur that you get the best bang for your buck with halides. Good luck-

yeah i have a halide pendant that i dropped major $$$ for. but i dont like the look of it hanging and i want something that will sit and look conventional. thanks for the help. i like the t-5s. i think the bulbs will last longer

I would suggest SLS Teklight with the individual parabolic reflectors, great for SPS. Look at the thread on T5 Q&A.
