Pods in the filter media.
Has anyone changed out the filter pad in a HOB filter (I use the Emeror 400) and found Pods in there? Yesterday, I changed out one side of the filter pads and found at least 10 Copepods in attached to the filter. ( I assume the bigger ones are Copepods not Amphipods, I get those two confused)
Is that normal? I don't want to wast these guys. I tried to save them but they were jumping all over.

Don't worry about the few in filter. I am sure your have many more in your tank.

I have found them in my filter too. If i can, i usually just pick them off and toss 'em back into the tank for a fish snack.

Keep the pods! Don't put them down the sink like use to do before I found out how beneficial pods are to your tank.

It's the sign of a healthy system. Good job.
Pods will be found in every part of a connected system, when things are going well BTW, the larger ones are amphipods. You'd have to look REAL close to find the copepods. swimmer

Thanks. I always transpose those two. Next time I will flick them off into the system. Tried to pick them up but by then, they were swimming in tap water. Thanks for the info.

If you set the filter in a shallow cup of aquarium water the pods will bail out and after the dust settles you can get them out with a turkey baster and feed them to your fish. For an all natural meal!!!
