where do you keep ypur ro/di unit? How many stage is yours?

I have a coralife 4 stage unit 75 gallons per day unit, I keep mine outside as this is where the spicket is, I have to run the hose through the back door and add water to the sump every few days, it is a real pain in the butt Plus it seems the filters get full of algea because the unit is out in the sun all day everyday.

I would like to keep the unit inside but am unsure how to do so, is there anything that can be hooked up to the ro/di to cut off the water when the sump is to the level that I want it at?

Please post pics if you have your unit inside and give details as to how its runs(where is the waste-water line going to) etc.

Thanks
Dean

I have mine tapped into my garage sink's water faucet and its mounted to the wall underneath the counter in the garage. It then fills up my containers there... In case I forget to shut off the water and it overflows it just goes right down the floor drain.

Mine is a 6 stage RODI.

I just have a 4-stage RO/DI unit 20GPH Kent-Marine. Its mounted up on the wall in the garage supplied by the wash hookup outlet and fills a vat then shuts off when full. I have a separate pump operated by a float switch in my sump to replenish evap water.

Our RO/DI unit is mounted above the laundry sink- so we can drain the waste water.

Why don't you run your RO water into a top off tank with a float valve?

Basement/Laundry

I have mine in the basement next to the washing machine. I have a Brute trashcan with float and valve for water storage. Just take a 5 Gallon Bucket down there when needed.
It is an ebay 6 stage from filter direct.

I keep mine under the kitchen sink, but it's not connected to the water line (we live in an apartment & can't mess with the plumbing). It's got a faucet attachment and I just place the waste water line down the kitchen drain. I take the filter out about once a month, fill a few buckets, then store them to use as needed. It's a six-stage RO/DI rated at 100gpd.

I have mine hooked up to my kitchen sink in the cabinet. I connected it to the cold-water supply to the facuet and use a ball valve to turn the RO on and off. The waste line is fed through a small hole (siliconed in place) into my garbage disposal. I just put the 5 gallon bucket down and flip the valve, nice and easy

My RO/DI unit is located in my washroom. I used a splitter on the coldwater supply to the washing machine. The splitter or tee also has shutoffs on it.

I have two 30 gallon barrels stacked one on top of the other. The top barrel is the freshwater storage. It has a float switch that cuts off the RO/DI unit when full. There is also an overflow plumbed in that sends any overflow to the sink preventing floods when the float switch fails (they will fail at some point). I also have plumbed in a valve and hose which makes filling buckets easy.

The bottom barrel is my saltwater makeup/storage. There is a supply plumbed from the fresh barrel that I can use to easily fill the barrel with the turn of a valve. Also, a circulation pump is plumbed in also. This pump can also divert saltwater to a bucket or container making water changes easier.

I am just a few short steps from plumbing fresh and salt lines to my tank.

Things that I would have done differently would include also putting an overflow in the saltwater vat that directs extra water to a drain. Also, I have thought about building a catch pan under the stand for the holding containers to prevent floods. Thirty gallon capacity would hold one barrel full in case of disaster.

My philosophy is to make maintenance as easy as possible. This keeps me doing the routine maintenance.
