Dumb or dumber???
Argh!!! I dumped a bag of sand into my tank and now it's everywhere! Can't even see my live rock anymore. Will this kill off a bunch of things in my tank and restart the cycle? The rock was coloring up nicely and I had a bunch of feather dusters, etc. Now i'm not sure they'll make it. Do I have anything to worry about? Also, should I run my powerheads and skimmer through this? Thanks so much for any help/reassurance!

Nope, don't worry. There are sand storms under the sea as well. After the storm clears take a turkey baster and blow off any sand that is on your corals. I have added sand and my whole tank was a storm and everything was better the next day. Keep your skimmer running at full speed and you can if you want to shut down your power heads.
You will be fine don't panic. Eric |

You should be fine. I would turn off the power heads. The skimmer should be fine. When it somewhat clears up where you can see the rock, I would take a turkery baster and blast the sand off the rock. Otherwise, you'll just stir it up again later when you blast the sand off the rock. I'm sure your feather dusters don't appreciate it, but they should be OK. I wouldn't really be concerned too much about die off. If you have any, your live rock should handle it. If it doesn't, then your tank wasn't ready anyway.

Phew! Thanks alot guys for putting my mind at ease! hehe Ok, maybe I overreacted a bit! Actually, I already see signs of life. All sorts of pods on my glass!!! My snails look a little bit stunned though! haha In the future, do you suggest I add the sand before or after the live rock?

i wouldn't turn anything off. let the dust fly and be removed by the skimmer or settle where it will.
