Bulkhead rubber seal
Has anyone ever installed a bulkhead so the rubber washer is on the outside of the sump/tank not directly touching the water.? I am concerned about leaking.

I have and I found that it did the same job. It was in the overflow box though. I have never tried this in a tank. I have heard that the rubber gasket causes problems no matter what side it is on. Some people don't use them and just silicon the bulkhead to the tank.

I have on the bulkhead of my sump. Due to space restrictiions, I had to reverse the bulkhead fitting so that the external pump could fit in the stand. No leaks yet.

Shouldn't matter which side the rubber gasket is on as long as it's between the glass and the "FLANGE" side of the bulkhead. (meaning not the nut part)
