sea swirl: got one.
Well, I did it. Bought a Sea Swirl, and am quite happy, finally, with the wider dispersal of flow.
Installing it was a battle. The connector provided is on the large side of 1/2 inch, and I tried hot water, pliers, and bad language to get the thing to accept a hose. The fitting I got from the lfs---no problem, but what came on the device was very difficult to fit. I was about ready to apply a match, but finally got it over enough bumps to take a c-clamp. I suspect the device-fitting started out metric and is 'approximated' to 1/2 inch. In essence, it runs, it rotates, it doesn't diminish flow too much, despite the squishy 1/2 inch tube, and the lps corals toss about in much better motion. Whew! For a simple project, it was a pain. The lfs supplied black ribbed tubing that really wouldn't go on. If I hadn't remembered I still had the clear plastic tubing from the great siphon failure I'd be at it to this hour.

I use bad language a lot when it comes to these things. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When you learn to threaten and scare the bejeezus out of an inanimate object, I want to be the first to know so that I can use it to my advantage

LOL. Definitely the highest adaptation of tool-using genus ****. Acquisition of speech probably followed first hammer-stone.

Mmm, I see my use of the hominid genus name triggered the censor. It doesn't like Latin.

Well, I can see why they would censor it, but 'that' word is greek, not latin. After all, we are talking latin here, not greek. The latin version means "man" not "same." Oh well.
